Terms of Service

Last updated: April 24, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Collabula (“the Service”), operated at getcollabula.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Collabula is a collaborative LaTeX editor that provides real-time document editing, AI-assisted writing (using your own API keys), and in-browser LaTeX compilation via WebAssembly. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.”

3. User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate information when creating an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
  • One person or entity may not maintain more than one free account

4. Your Content & Intellectual Property

You own your content. All LaTeX documents, files, and other content you create or upload to Collabula remain your intellectual property. We do not claim any ownership rights over your content.

You grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the Service (including real-time collaboration with your invited collaborators). This license terminates when you delete your content or account.

5. AI Features & API Keys

Collabula's AI features operate on a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. When you provide an API key:

  • Your key is encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) and used only to proxy requests on your behalf
  • We do not log, inspect, or store the content of your AI requests or responses
  • You are responsible for complying with the terms of your AI provider
  • API usage charges from third-party providers are your responsibility

6. Collaboration

When you invite collaborators to a project, they gain access to view and edit the project's documents. You are responsible for managing who has access to your projects. Collabula is not responsible for content created or modified by your collaborators.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data without authorization
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Use automated systems to scrape or collect data from the Service
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without written permission

8. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss resulting from service interruptions.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Collabula and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.

LaTeX compilation is performed entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. We are not responsible for compilation errors, output quality, or any consequences of using compiled documents.

10. Open-Source Components

Collabula uses open-source components including Busytex (MIT). These components are subject to their respective licenses.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your content will be deleted within 30 days per our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. For significant changes, we will provide notice via the Site or email.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and applicable member state laws. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
